Another "not much" day for me. I mean, these Comey hearings today are a big deal, I get that -- it's all anyone can talk about on Twitter -- but I have close to zero expectation that they will make any real difference to the travesty that is our American President in the near future, so I just can't muster all that much interest. This is still my journal about my own life, after all; it's the one place where it's always appropriate (contrary to what some people occasionally have thought, bizarrely, over the years) to make it all about me. Me me me me meeeee! By the way, I can always still cite President Fuckwit as a far bigger egomaniac than I am. Of course, he is also evil. Or at least astoundingly dumb.

I'm getting off track here. Why am I talking about him? This is about me!

I rode my bike home from work yesterday, and then Shobhit and I had salad for dinner, with fried seitan and chopped broccoli and cauliflower patties added. The seitan and broccoli/cauliflower really just turned into this odd, largely flavorless mush, but whatever; it had the consistency of veggie ground. Prior to that, the seitan, which had come from a sample aseptic container from work, had come out with the shape and consistency of SPAM. It was pretty gross looking. But, we found a use for it, I guess. Adding a bit of peanut dressing to my plate of salad really made the difference and gave it a nice flavor and little kick.

We ate while watching Waterworld, one of the most notorious movies in American cinema history -- its $175 million budget was, at the time, the largest in history (in unadjusted dollars, anyway) and remained so until Titanic's $200 budget three years later. It's why everyone expected Titanic to be a flop just like Waterworld had been, the key difference being Titanic had a far better director with a much better sense of what would appeal to the public. Tragic love story featuring Leonardo DiCaprio versus mutant fish-man played by Kevin Costner? You do the math. Waterworld made only $88 million domestically, but ultimately turned a profit due to foreign receipts.

It was never a great movie, but I was interested in it after seeing the Waterworld attraction at Universal Studios, at which time Shobhit had never seen the movie -- but he rather liked the attraction. That was in 2012, and even there it took me another five years before I finally got the movie so he could see what the attraction had been based on. Shobhit could barely remember the attraction, I think, but whatever. Yesterday I sent him a link to the five photos I took when we went to the attraction, to maybe jog his memory.

The movie is pretty entertaining, and after the admittedly rather well-executed sequence early on when the "smokers" attack the atoll, Shobhit said, "I like the movie so far." I said, "I thought you might." It's over-long, at two hours and 16 minutes, and by the end it gets more stupid than anything else; that bungee-jump rescue of the little girl was truly ridiculous. But, whatever. As I told Shobhit, I hadn't seen it since it first came out, 22 years ago. I think I can easily wait another two decades before watching it again. Or more.

After that, we worked on the New York Times crossword puzzle. I watched one episode of The Golden Girls, basically my "boob tube comfort food" these days. I was in bed soon after, having started to get rather tired much earlier than usual.

There was no biking today, and likely won't be for the rest of the week. It was actually raining this morning, which meant busing downtown and then walking the rest of the way to work under my umbrella. I was thinking this morning about how long it had been since I did not bike to work -- it's been a couple of weeks at least. It almost felt like a blast from the past to commute to work this way again.

Our view of Puget Sound from work is still beautiful, as far as I'm concerned. I love it whether it's sunny or it's rainy.

I just finished my pizza for lunch today, which I did not eat outside this time -- it's actually dry now, but still a bit chilly 60°, especially given the breeziness out there, and mostly overcast skies. 60° is the kind of temperature that is comfortable, barely, under direct sunlight but not so much under clouds. Unless you're from Alaska, maybe.

I've got another low-key evening at home this evening, but then busy weekends the rest of the month. Tomorrow is Happy Hour with Laney right after work; the Volunteer Park Pride Festival with Evan and Elden (and maybe Shobhit?) Saturday afternoon before a movie with Ivan in the evening; then the Equality March for Unity and Pride with Laney (and maybe Shobhit?) Sunday late morning before my final SIFF screening at the Uptown on Lower Queen Anne mid-afternoon that day. Lots going on this weekend. And then Shobhit's and my anniversary trip to Vancouver, B.C. the following weekend (although our actual anniversary is Wednesday). And then three days full of Pride Weekend events the weekend after that.

Does the weekend after that count as Fourth of July Weekend? I suppose some people will make it that way. Independence Day is on the following Tuesday this year, though. I'll be working four days that week but not on Tuesday, which is weird, but whatever. I have no idea what I'll be doing for the Fourth of July this year -- I was in L.A. the past four years, all of them at the Grand Park Block Party, which I truly loved the first year and enjoyed every other year but it did slightly lose its appeal every year thereafter; I won't miss it too much this year -- especially after the bizarre bullshit that went down with Shobhit that weekend last year (which very much contributed to his ultimate decision to return to Seattle). All I can say of this year as I sure as shit plan to be somewhere I can see fireworks.
