It's long been clear that President Fuckwit is my generation's Richard Nixon, but . . . Jesus Christ. Nixon was in office over three years before the Watergate break-in occurred in 1972. President Fuckwit's problems began well before he even took office, during his campaign; at present he's been in office all of three and a half months, and already his firing of the FBI Director is being characterized as "echoes of Watergate." I mean, shit. Nixon had time to do some actually good things before he went down. President Fuckwit, by contrast, has essentially set the country on fire.

I continue to live my day to day life calmly. Why? Because I see that as the rational choice. It really is still a choice, you know. Too many of my fellow liberals seem to be forgetting that, opting instead to live their lives alternately depressed or in a panic. Neither of those states of being is helpful to anyone, so far as I can tell.

We live in often surreal, extraordinary times. But depending on where you look, when has that not been the case, really?

Think globally, act locally, they say. I'm definitely going to Seattle's March for Truth on June 3. I may look into actual volunteer opportunities for this one. In the meantime, I live my life as normal. Otherwise the terrorists win, right? (Something else that feels extraordinary: anyone born on September 11, 2001 would be 15 now.)

So! I went to a movie last night. Shobhit even came with me. We went to the decent but otherwise far less impactful than it should have been Ther Finest, which as you can plainly see, has a frustratingly meaningless title. I did enjoy it, though. I just wouldn't tell anyone else to rush out and see it. Thus: solid B.

Shobhit only came because we finally took advantage of a little-known deal offered to AT&T customers called "Ticket Twosdays: you can get a two-for-one deal to see a movie on a Tuesday. In an effort to avoid the stupid online processing fee, I tried to take advantage of this deal at the ticket counter. Amusingly, neither the guy at the counter nor the manager he called out to, to ask about it, had any idea what we were talking about -- even though the commercial for this very deal airs before countless movies in that very theatre. Are they all asleep at the wheel or what?

The manager had a vague idea, actually. He said it was a scannable code you got direct from AT&T. Well, that's completely wrong as well, but closer than being able to order it at the ticket counter. What you do is go to that web page where AT&T offers the deal, and then they text you a promo code to use when reserving the tickets online. So, there's no getting out of the god damned processing fee. In essence, instead of getting the second ticket for free, you get the second ticket for $1.50. Still a damn good deal, of course. So I went through the rigmarole on my phone, and had the tickets sent to Will Call, and when I walked back to the counter that same clueless guy was now able to print out my tickets for me since I had just paid for them online.

We'll definitely do this again, and it will be simpler in the future now that we know how it has to be done. I get the feeling not very many people take advantage of this, which probably makes it much easier for AT&T and Regal Cinemas to afford offering it. But you know Shobhit and me (but especially Shobhit): we're cheap and are all about the deals.

My cough and runny nose were massively improved yesterday. I hardly coughed at all, all day, actually. So it's a little annoying that, while I still feel mostly fine, I'm coughing a bit more again today, and now when I do cough it's notably more phlegm-y. What a pain in the ass. Or in the throat, rather. Of course, it's all still preferable to those first two days with a sore throat. That's always the worst.

We have a forecast high of around 70° today. We had a few days of dry (if still partly cloudy) weather, but the rain is set to return tomorrow. "Showers likely" tomorrow, says the National Weather Service for Seattle. "Chance showers" on Friday; "showers likely" Saturday; "chance showers" Sunday. Whatever: as usual, the only real plans I have are indoors, for movie watching. Laney and I are doing a double feature on Saturday of Psycho and The Birds.

The following weekend is the requisite Spring trip to Idaho to see Mom and Bill -- and, this time, Christopher as well, since my brother is still living out there, as far as I know. I finally sent Katina a DM on Facebook Messenger yesterday to see about having the boys come visit me, but it's not even indicating yet that she's seen it. I'll give it a week or two and maybe follow up. It's strange to feel like I am finally picking back up with the kids' visits as of last summer, only to have such uncertainty on their end this year, for completely different reasons.

Today is the third day in a row this week that I've ridden my bike to work. I won't be tomorrow, unless the rain forecast gets bumped back another day, which does sometimes happen. It's both satisfying and exhausting to be riding with any kind of regularity again. It takes a while to get used to it, especially biking up the hills on the way home.

They finally set up the patio furniture outside at work again. I remember last fall when we were told our setup out there will blow away there very nice setup they have on the outdoor patio one floor below us. That never really happened. But it's nice to have that patio available at all. Count your blessings!
