I didn't do any writing for this entry before lunch today! What is this world coming to?

I'm glad I updated you on Friday and Saturday yesterday. Now there's not much to update you on about yesterday, except that I took myself to see a really fun foreign film called The Brand New Testament in the afternoon. I gave it a strong B+. I think Shobhit might actually have liked it, but he chose not to come with me. Ivan didn't seem much interested either when I told him about it on Saturday. So, I walked back down to Seattle Center by myself to watch it at the SIFF Film Forum theatre.

Strangely, it only played there for three days. I don't know why they did that. There was only one showing left by the time I posted my review, and then it was less than two hours away. But, whatever. I had a nice walk, both there and back, listening to my iPod.

Oh! I nearly forgot to tell you about the cats' checkup yesterday morning.

I usually take them in for their annual physical in April, during my Birth Week -- which in the last few years I just did in an attempt to allow Shobhit to come along while he was visiting home from L.A., which is no longer part of the picture -- but I made the appointment for a month earlier this year due to a weird fungus Shobhit and I noticed on the cats, and especially Guru's, paws when I was trying to cut his claws. He's got weird brown crud around the claws where they meet the skin, and the skin is very much enflamed.

The vet thinks it may be a bacterial infection, so what we're trying now is a set of antibiotics that I'll be giving him twice a day for about a week. Less, if it clears up in a few days. I already give both cats one pill every two days for digestion to help them vomit less; now Guru gets even more pills -- two pills one day, three pills the next, repeat. He's super thrilled about it.

The vet said the cats have been officially "senior" since last year! They just turned nine on March 1. Hopefully they turn out to be like those cats that live for twenty years. Wouldn't that be nice? The longest-lasting cat I ever had was Batty, and I had to put him down at 15. Peng was put down at 10. I really don't want to think these ones might go any time soon. On the plus side, they both otherwise seemed perfectly healthy. They even both had almost exactly maintained weight compared to their checkups last year, so that's good.

And now I don't have to worry about this appointment for my Birth Week this year either.

Shobhit had suggested we go get a burger at Blue Moon Burger using my $2 off Chinook Book coupon, which at first we were going to do for lunch before I went to the movie, and then Shobhit suggested we go later in the evening after I got back. But while I was walking down there, I thought about how over budget I am right now -- largely due to the cats' annual checkup yesterday morning -- it really wasn't necessary. We've gone out to eat more than enough lately, and I have Happy Hour with Laney this Friday (and also lunch with Karen on Thursday). And the coupon doesn't expire until October. So, at my suggestion, we just made veggie burgers at home instead.

I also made us all cocktails -- including Ivan, for whom I finally had a chance to make a White Russian. He seems to love it when I ask, "Would you like a White Russian?" He always smiles and says, "Well who wouldn't?" He tasted the one I had at Il Fornaio two Saturdays ago and found it rather tasty, so I told him sometime I'd make him one at home.

I made it too strong. I did the same to Shobhit's, in which I put two shots of vodka, which he complained about. That one was just Naked Juice, a green flavor, with vodka. I guess I'll always only put one shot of liquor in Shobhit's cocktails from now on. And not as much in Ivan's either: "It's potent!" he said, and accepted my offer a minute later to cut it a bit with some more milk. I made both his and my White Russians the same way, with two shots of vodka, one shot of Bailey's Irish Cream, and a half shot of Crème de Menthe that I've had a bottle of for God knows how many years now and am just now finding ways to use up.

Otherwise, we didn't do much yesterday. Shobhit and I worked on New York Times crossword puzzles together and watched a bit of TV. Shobhit watched a couple of movies while I was out. Ivan hung out and chatted with us for just a bit in the evening. I love how much time I get to spend with him now, but it occurred to me that maybe next weekend I should see if I could get together again with Danielle and/or Gabriel. It's been too long especially since I've had some real quality time with Gabriel (lunch on February 18 notwithstanding: it was the only time I've seen him since New Year's Day), but also with Danielle too. So I hope to connect with one or maybe even both of them soon. I've already got a scheduled plan with Ivan again on March 25 anyway, and maybe even March 18 too -- both of them more movies to see.
