-- चार हजार और पचास --

Very little to update you on in my life today since yesterday. I spent pretty much the entire evening last night, after walking home, watching television: one episode of Modern Family; one episode of New Girl; two episodes -- to get caught up -- of This Is Us (which, ironically, Shobhit gave up on after three episodes last fall but he was the one who got me into it to begin with); and this week's aired episode of The Big Bang Theory which turned out to be a rerun but somehow I had never seen it. So it was sort of like time traveling briefly back to a time when Bernadette was still pregnant.

So that was, what? about three hours of television, between 6 and 9? Oh! I also worked on the day's New York Times crossword puzzle with Shobhit.

I suppose I could say a few words about that, since I signed up to add the games to my New York Times digital subscription. Shobhit is all over that crossword, which he apparently used to do with Faith. Now we often work on it together, and for the most part, we're turning out to be a pretty good team at it.

I usually have little patience with crosswords because there's too much I don't know or can't remember. But I think Shobhit may be right that getting into the practice will be good for me and my cognitive capacity. He worries about my risk of eventually developing some kind of dementia, given that's what Grandma McQuilkin died of, and Mom's memory seems to have taken a recent sort of turn to a place she had not quite been since mostly recovering after her 2014 stroke. And mind you, these two examples come from both my dad's side (Grandma McQuilkin was his mother) and then Mom herself -- so, strains of it in the blood lines of both parents.

I've always had memory issues, and even if I don't actually develop some kind of dementia, doing games like this are known to help in such matters.

I don't always have time to do them jointly with Shobhit, especially on days when I go see movies in the evening. But when we are able to do them together, so far anyway, I'm finding I'm rather enjoying it. Shobhit and I have been together nearly 13 years and this feels a little like discovering a new common interest, a kind of hobby for us to do together. It's been nice. Totally worth the extra forty bucks a year.
