Bit of a downturn today: nothing major done last night, no major announcements since I last updated. With the holidays over, we're back to business as usual. For now, anyway. I do have a somewhat surprisingly busy weekend coming up, although I don't know yet if I'll leave home on Sunday -- but I do have plans that day, what with the Golden Globe Awards airing that evening. I don't want to miss them, even though Jimmy Fallon is hosting and his cloying, fawning tendencies annoy me. Saturday Lynn has a birthday party that I intend to attend. I had been hoping to see a movie with Ivan this weekend but that may not happen if he's not up for an early showing.

So what of last night, then? Well, Shobhit used up that huge bag of spinach we got at Costco last weekend -- taking up way too much space in the refrigerator -- to make palak paneer, which was ready to be eaten as soon as I got home. It was very tasty, if a bit spicy, but whatever. We then proceeded to watch four episodes of The Crown, so now I have two episodes of this first season left. Abhishek, Shobhit's cousin, had told us last Friday that he liked it but only found the first four episodes to be particularly good. I have to disagree, rather emphatically: episode 7 last night was every bit as good as the best of them.

I saw on the show's IMDb trivia page that the intent is to shoot six seasons of this show, ultimately to span the entirety of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. I do hope that comes to fruition. It says Claire Foy is intended to play The Queen for at least the first two seasons, which I think is a good plan. She's quite good in the role.

I guess I should be careful about what could lead people here through Google searches, so I'll just mention that I was just in a Social Media meeting to meet the new, young guy hired to be Social Media Specialist (what Ricardo's title was for several years; now he's Digital Marketing Specialist, which means about as much to me as my current, arguably meaningless title, "Center Store Support Specialist," or "Csss," as I like to call it), and that was where I found out about this, what I would consider stupid bullshit.

This is the latest from our often truly insufferable customer base. To be fair, it's always a minority of whiners who get the most attention -- the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and all that. By and large our customers are actually great. But this website was clearly created by people genuinely out of touch with reality. The very first paragraph on that page is packed with untruths, or at best it's willfully misleading: we did not "propose" destroying urban forest; we simply signed on to a development project that was to go on with our without our involvement. That's a pretty big difference to my way of thinking. As was noted in the meeting, something will go into that space, whether it's our new store or not. Do these people prefer it be a bank? It might as well be us.

Full disclosure: that location is barely more than a mile from my condo. So I'm pretty gung-ho in support of this new store, myself!

So anyway, I guess that's some news since I last updated -- I didn't learn about that web page until about 11:15 or so this morning. That was after I had actually written the above section. It wasn't exactly a "major announcement"; I guess pretty much all of the Marketing department has been well aware of it since at least yesterday, but since I actually work in Merchandising and only cross over to Marketing with my comparatively limited social media involvement (I simply respond to product inquiries on social media), I knew nothing about it. The guy running the meeting, Matt, kept referring to the page by name and I didn't even know what he was talking about. I was like, "I feel like I'm missing something. Is that the name of an organization?" Turned out it was the name of a web page. A stupid, stupid web page.
