WEEKEND UPDATE

Friday

Well, shit. Friday was too long ago! What the fuck did I do on Friday? I can't even remember. Wait! I rode my bike home, in perfectly nice weather, aware of the rain coming that probably meant that was going to be my last bike ride home from work of the year. I bought a pair of rain boots from OnlineShoes.com that arrived on Thursday. I finally took them out of the box on Friday. They fit just fine. We got a little bit of rain this weekend but never really more than sprinkles; I have yet to feel any pressing need to wear them. I have not worn my sandals since Friday, though.

I made myself veggie hot dogs for dinner. And then walked over to Old School Frozen Custard for the Flavor of the Day, which was Banana Cream Pie -- perfect for the peanut butter cup topping. I watched The Big Bang Theory. Really exciting stuff. I got tired and went to bed by 11:30.

Saturday

Surprise! I watched more TV. I can't remember now if it was Friday night or Saturday morning that I watched the first episode of Downton Abbey streaming from Netflix. Either way, I really liked it. I haven't watched the second episode yet -- I'd be watching it right now but I figured I should update my journal -- but I look forward to watching more.

I made myself waffles for brunch. I have set the Big Ass Pancake Brunch aside for the Massive Stack of Waffles Brunch. I'm quite liking it. My calorie-conscious tactic when doing this is to have that for brunch and then a light dinner. It usually works. Except this time Danielle came over and we ended up going out for dinner and for dessert. So much for calorie consciousness.

Danielle came over much later than I thought she would be. She had originally told me Patrick would be out fishing until afternoon and then would come up here from Renton. Patrick ended up getting sick and having to cancel the fishing trip; Danielle said she let him sleep pretty much through the morning. She did make sure he was okay enough to be left with the kids for the evening. It was well after 4:00 when she arrived yesterday.

The purpose was to help her study grammar and punctuation for a placement exam that she's failed twice and needs to take again. She was "so not in the mood" for actual studying and I did little to whip her into shape. I flipped through the book she brought a bit, and that was about the extent of our "studying." I'm such a great help.

She was hungry. I was happy to go out to dinner. I'd long wanted to try the new Mexican place, Poquitos, on 10th and Pike. I finally had someone with me who was up for it. We left right around 5:00 and walked over there. It was happy hour and we got some great prices off the happy hour menu, including our drinks -- which I had one of (a sweet sangria drink that was actually just okay) and which Danielle had two of (a lime margarita). We were both actually very impressed with the food. I took a risk and tried the yam tacos our waitress insisted were delicious even though I don't care for yams. And guess what? They were actually quite good! Although not quite as good as the black bean tostada.

We then walked over to Cal Anderson Park, and just sat in the grass talking for a while. It was really nice just hanging out, just the two of us, which we very seldom get to do anymore -- although the last time was just a couple of months ago. Shobhit called during this time and they said their his and how are yous through me. The call only lasted a few minutes. We spent the rest of the time just chatting, about things including but not limited to sex and drugs and alcohol and family and children and weight and food.

Then we decided we still wanted to go get some dessert, even though the original plan had been to go to Dilettante's for a chocolate martini and we ended up getting drinks at Poquitos. We still went to Dilettante's, but Danielle decided two drinks was enough and so she'd get a slice of cake instead. I wavered between a "chocolate covered cherry" martini myself and the "spirited" milkshake and ended up leaning toward the latter. I practically inhaled the thing. I also ate at least a quarter of Danielle's cake. And I ate both the individually wrapped chocolate candies that came with our check. You see what happens to me when the floodgates open? It was no surprise when I weighed in this morning at 140.1 lbs, having gone back above 140 for the first time in about a week and a half.

We walked back to the condo, where Danielle discovered that apparently the Poquitos Mexican food didn't exactly sit with her well. I got a little paranoid for myself but I was actually fine and still am. It was very near 11:30 by the time I was finally walking her outside to her van.

Sunday

Today, I've done the only sensible thing to do after spending a Saturday over-eating. I continued over-eating!

I was surprised to sleep clear until 7:25 this morning. I awoke with a start, immediately worried that I had over slept to the point of it being a challenge to meet [info]susandennis in time for brunch at the Cheesecake Factory at 10:00. Actually I had plenty of time. But I was still shocked Guru had not woken me up. Since I get up at 5:45 on weekdays, he's usually mewing in my ear over and over again at least by 6:30 on weekends. Maybe today he thought I just looked too precious and decided to let me sleep.

Anyway, I got up, spent half an hour on the computer, and took my hour to get ready. After that I had only another half hour before needing to leave, since I walked down to the Cheesecake Factory, listening to Tori Amos along the way.

I got to the Cheesecake Factory at 9:55 and Susan was already there. Damn! She beat me.

They let us in and I ordered the Monte Cristo Sandwich without the meat. This was basically French Toast used as the bread for a sandwich whose filling was cheese and scrambled eggs. It was fucking delicious. Except the more I ate of it, the less delicious it became. Maybe it was just the unusual richness of the dish, but the more I ate, the more it seemed to sort of weigh down in my stomach. I still ate nearly all of it -- there were maybe three bites of it left.

It came with delicious hash browns, though, and I did eat all of those.

Usually our waiter at the Cheesecake Factory is gorgeous. It's become a common theme of conversation whenever we discuss going there. So, when the waiter first came and went, Susan promptly let out a blithe, "Six." And, I had to agree with her. The guy wasn't ugly, but he wasn't gorgeous. I was kind of disappointed. I've come to count on getting waiters there who I would almost prefer having for lunch over the actual food. But, I guess it can't be perfect every time.

We finished with plenty of time before the movie -- about an hour, in fact -- which was at noon. Susan wanted to get some type of lotion at Macy's and so we walked over there. Then we walked over to Westlake Center, mostly just so I could use the bathroom. By then we'd killed an hour and so we were good to head over to the theatre.

We went to see Moneyball, which I think actually both of us were expecting to be better than it was -- even though we both still enjoyed it. I gave it a good B+, after all; it's just that I was rather expecting, after all the critical response, at least an A-. But it's not an A- movie. It's a B+. I'm glad I saw it though and it was entertaining. I don't feel like the review I wrote was the best. I kind of ran out of things to say about it before I wanted to. Maybe in this instance being someone not at all interested in sports was part of the problem, even though that had no effect whatsoever on my ability to enjoy the movie.

I rather like looking at Brad Pitt, even at the age he's at now. It's sort of ironic, actually, because when he had his breakout role in Thelma & Louise and for many years after that, I thought he was the hottest man alive. Then, in the years between 2000 and 2010, how much older he got made him far less attractive to me. But guess what? Now I've gotten a bit older too, and I think he's totally hot again.

Although he still doesn't hold a candle to Colin Farrell. Or Andrew Garfield, for that matter, who is my new second boyfriend. Andrew Garfield doesn't even have to be undressed or showing his butt or anything -- I just look at him and get heart palpitations. I'll be seeing the franchise-rebooting Amazing Spider-Man only because he's in the title role. I wand to lick that man all over. I want to use his entire body as a jawbreaker. Am I getting carried away?

I'm digressing, at the very least.

We both enjoyed the movie. We parted ways afterward, and I walked home. President Obama was appearing at the Paramount Theatre and I could not get up Capitol Hill on either Pike or Pine Street. Annoying. I had to walk two blocks out of my way. I joked in a tweet, "That fucking tyrant, he's just like Hitler!" That got a few comments on Facebook that, while not spelling it out, gave a distinct connotation that I went a little far with that one. Which honestly only amused me. It got me the attention I wanted! Besides, it's called pointed sarcasm, people!

Anyway, I made it home. I wrote my blah movie review. I watched The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. I did laundry. I ironed. I made dinner -- a sort of Indian Hodgepodge dish combining Forbidden Rice (I was a little wary of it being so dark black in color, but it turned out to taste just fine) and Indian meal packets (another kind of rice; a lentil packet; an eggplant packet) and fresh chopped tomato, onion and cashew nuts. It probably tipped me over the edge yet again in the calorie department, even though I did not have a huge portion. We'll see when I weigh myself tomorrow morning. In any case, it's got me pretty much set for pack lunches through the coming week.

The dishes in the dishwasher should be dry enough now so that I can use the lidded dishes for packing those lunches. So I guess I'll get on that.
